"Heroes Around Me"

DUE in the MPR by 2pm on FRIDAY, OCTOBER 12, 2018

Entries will be judged for the next level of competition immediately following the due date. The due date and ALL submission requirements (see below) must carefully be followed or your submission will be rejected.  
No exceptions!

The Reflections Program is a National PTA and CSPTA cultural arts competition. The purpose is to provide an opportunity for students to use their creative talents by expressing themselves through their own original works.  The Reflections theme for 2018-2019 is “Heroes Around Me".  You can be so creative with this theme!

The Reflections Program provides an excellent opportunity for students of all ages to:

  • Unleash their creative talents and be inspired
  • Express themselves imaginatively in their artwork
  • Experience the joy and fun of making art
  • Tap into critical thinking skills to create art inspired by the annual theme
  • Receive positive recognition for their original works of art

All students are eligible to participate and may submit entries by the due date.  There is no registration fee or cost to submit artwork. CLICK FOR HERE  to download INFORMATION, RULES AND ENTRY FORMS that MUST be submitted with your entry by October 12th at 2pm.

ART CATEGORIES:   To get involved, students submit an original piece, inspired by the annual theme, for their school's Reflections Program in any of following arts areas:

      Note:  You must read and follow the rules for each category before you begin your work. 

  • Film Production - short film, documentary and more- MUST submit 3 flash drives/DVDs
  • Literature - prose, poetry, short stories, drama (screen play and play script), reflective essay, and narratives - MUST submit 3 copies.
  • Dance Choreography - original dance that you create and record - MUST submit 3 flash drives/DVDs
  • Music Composition - original score with or without lyrics - MUST submit 3 flash drives/DVDs
  • Photography - go wild with your camera
  • Visual Arts - paintings, collages, drawings, metal etching or punch work, fiber work, computer-generated or 3-D artwork.

GRADE DIVISIONS:  Winners will be decided according to the following divisions. 

  • Primary:  Primary K to 2nd grades
  • Intermediate:  3rd to 5th grades
  • Middle School:   6th to 8th grades
  • Special Artist:  ungraded

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS:  (Being updated—please check back!)

  1. All submissions must adhere to both the General Rules and Art Category Official Rules as defined by the National Reflections Arts Recognition Program.  Please carefully review the art category requirements (Official Rules) as there is information posted regarding size of work, length of work and the type of media allowed. 
  2. Please review consent requirements your entries.   If required, be sure to include a signed CONSENT FORM for ANYONE who participates in the taping, photographing or audio recording of the entry.  
  3. Turn in your artwork, with the CA State OFFICICAL ENTRY FORM (download above with official rules, to the MPR by 2 pm, on Friday, October 12th. We cannot accept entries after this date due to the need to submit winning entries to the district and state levels. 
  4. Students may complete a Reflections project as one of their 4 (out of 6) challenges for Academic Challenge credit.  Late submissions, or submissions not following the Reflections category rules, will not qualify for the Academic Challenge.  

AWARDS:  Artworks are judged by professional artists. 

  1. Receive a special Reflections Recognition Ribbon. 
  2. Show artwork in our Turtle Rock School Gallery - the Library. 
  3. At the end of October, winning pieces will advance to the district and state level competitions. 
  4. Chance to advance to state and national competitions.
